Arcade site-specific installation, windows, vinyl, Fuxia 2, Malmö, 2024
After filming LED video advertisements in a newly built shopping mall that is part of a gentrification program in Kosovo, six still images were selected from the footage. As static images, they appear indistinct and pixelated, with the LED lights forming checkered patterns. These images are printed on transparent vinyl and mounted in the large windows of the exhibition space. Blending seamlessly with the outdoor surroundings, they create a colorful room where shadows play on the walls and floor throughout the day, blending the inside and outside of the space into an illusion.
Arcade extends the themes explored in Common Desire and Femra (2024), correlating with each other in their reflection on the effects of capitalism and urban transformation. The work questions the ongoing process of gentrification in Malmö, Copenhagen, and Prizren.
